Drone quarry and land surveying
Drone mapping of rock and gravel quarries, work sites and land – an up-to-date overview of the entire area.
An overview of the entire quarry
A drone can quickly cover large areas that would otherwise be time-consuming or difficult to access on foot. Outputs can include an orthophoto, a terrain model or other digital records showing the site at a specific point in time.
Repeat flights over the same area document changes – such as extraction progress or land restoration.
Applications
- Overview maps of rock and gravel quarries
- Documentation of quarry faces and surfaces
- Information for work site planning
- Monitoring changes over time
- Land mapping before construction work
Survey method and deliverable formats
We primarily survey using GNSS/RTK, which links the imagery directly to a coordinate system. Where needed, we add ground control points (GCPs) – for example when tighter positional control is required or site conditions call for it. The method is chosen based on the purpose of the project.
- Orthophotos and elevation models – GeoTIFF
- Point clouds – LAS/LAZ
- CAD data – DXF/DWG
- 3D model / mesh – OBJ
- Volume and summary reports – PDF
- Other formats and coordinate systems on request
Accuracy depends on factors such as flight altitude, image overlap, control points, terrain, vegetation, light and weather. We agree on realistic accuracy before the project starts.
Projects across Sweden and the Nordics
We take on assignments across Sweden and, by agreement, elsewhere in the Nordic region. Site size, travel, access and delivery requirements affect planning and pricing – tell us where and what, and we will come back with a proposal.
Frequently asked questions
Can you survey an entire quarry in one visit?
Usually yes. The flight is planned around the quarry's size, terrain and applicable regulations, and the whole area can be mapped as one dataset.
Which coordinate system do you deliver in?
We survey with GNSS/RTK and can deliver in the coordinate and height system you use, for example SWEREF 99 and RH 2000.
What is the difference between an orthophoto, elevation model and point cloud?
An orthophoto is a geometrically corrected aerial image. An elevation model describes surface height in a grid. A point cloud is millions of individual 3D points used for further analysis.
